River Fest 2015
August 4-9, Downtown Skowhegan
River Fest 2015 is a multi-day event that celebrates recreation and life on the Kennebec River. It is sponsored by Skowhegan Savings and organized by Main Street Skowhegan, Skowhegan Savings, the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Skowhegan Run of River committee. River Fest illustrates the potential of the Kennebec River Gorge as a recreational destination, currently under development by the Run of River Project. Rustic Overtones Play River Fest
Saturday, August 8th!

Rustic Overtones, Portland's own 7 piece rock band, are confirmed to play the Saturday of River Fest! The band's unique version of indie rock is strongly influenced by soul music, garage punk, jazz and psychedelic music of the 60's and 70's.

They have collaborated and recorded with David Bowie, Imogen Heap, Ray Lamontagne, Eric Krasno, Funkmaster Flex and Naughty by Nature, as songwriters, multi-instrumentalists, arrangers, and composers and have toured nationally as direct support for De La Soul, Steel Pulse, and Run DMC among others.

Lions Club Chicken BBQ

The long-running and popular chicken barbecue hosted by the Lions Club is back again this year! Meal tickets are $11 and include one half barbequed chicken using the Lions special recipe, cole slaw, chips, roll and butter, bottled water, and whoopie pie.

Hosted by the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce, this longstanding summer event includes kids' activities hosted by the Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department, live bands, tons of vendors, and the famous bed races.

Hosted by the Skowhegan Parks and Recreation Department, teams of 5 compete head-to-head by pushing beds on caster wheels down Water Street. Register under the tent for bed races (until 6:30pm), and paddling events later in the week. Registration form

14th Annual Sundowner Canoe and Kayak Race

Bart from Southside Tavern annually organizes this recreational, 3-mile race for kayaks and canoes. T-shirts for the first 100 entrants.

Wesserunsett Stream Paddle

Somerset Woods Trustees and Skowhegan Conservation Commission will host a paddle down the Kennebec River and up Wesserunsett Stream led by biologist Joe Dembeck and Master Maine Guide Eric Lahti . Please bring your own canoe/kayak, life jackets, and paddles. Some canoes (with life jackets and paddles) will be available for use for those without. There is no fee to participate.

Skowhegan Rotary Club 31st Annual Lobster Bake

Single or double lobster meal, hamburgers and hotdogs available. Each meal comes with corn, coleslaw, roll, cookie, and a drink. Twisted Strings will play traditional Celtic music with a fiddle and guitar from 5-8PM. Single meal tickets are $14 and double meal tickets are $24. Tickets are available for purchase at the Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce or from your favorite Rotarian. Tickets may also be purchased at the tent.

Drivers and Duffers Golf Classic

The Skowhegan Area Chamber of Commerce Drivers and Duffers Gold Classic at Lakewood Golf Course. Registration for every player will be $90 or $360 per foursome. Fee includes 1 round of 18 holes per player, 1 ticket for lobster dinner, and 1 player's portion of a cart.

Langlais Park Grand Opening

Hospice Volunteers of Somerset County hosts this river race of rubber ducks. Participants may adopt as many ducks as they like. Contact Hospice for prizes, pricing, and other details.

Hosted by Bloomfield’s Tavern, the Rustic Overtones will be playing on the big stage under the big top. Gwizzoes will open the concert at 4PM. Designated areas for Beer Garden customers and for minors will be provided. Food vendors include pulled pork and smoked sausage sandwiches by The Big Daddy Tug Barbecue Co.

All River Fest events happen in and near downtown Skowhegan, where US Routes 2 and 201 come together. From I-95 North or South, take exit 133 toward Skowhegan/Fairfield and follow US Route 201 north into downtown Skowhegan.
